Patchwork Identity

“Patchwork Identity" is the title of Elham Azimi's first solo exhibition at Mojdeh Art Gallery, held in May 2019.
The chaotic world we inhabit is constantly changing. Modern humans, aided by cyberspace, experience a vast network of reciprocal connections on a global scale, a phenomenon that is instantaneous, immediate, and ubiquitous. This pluralistic and momentary perspective is constantly blending and transforming, directly impacting the lives of contemporary humans. Therefore, it can be said that in today's world, each individual contains a multitude within themselves, borrowing their identity like a patchwork quilt from various cultures. "Every individual is a thought in eruption, and we are all patchwork pieces being woven."*
This collection is the product of these very changes, and it illustrates the formation or disintegration of the bewildered modern human's identity, which has a fragmented and multi-layered nature and is constantly changing. In the process of creating this collection, I used the layers of dried paint on the painting palettes, which themselves were a complete and flawless work of art, drawing their charm from spontaneity. By arranging the pieces of color together like a puzzle, I indirectly painted portraits of layered humans who are in the process of decline or rebirth, and these layers of color somehow allude to the layers of their existence.
