In Search of Words

The book “Searching for Words” was published in 2021 with the cooperation of Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, Mehdi Sahabi Foundation and Mojdeh Art Gallery. This book, along with Mehdi Sahabi A Retrospective, has formed a collection that aims to show the different aspects of Sahabi's multifaceted personality. The book includes a number of articles on Mehdi Sahabi's translations of Marcel Proust, Flaubert and Stendhal. In addition to specialized translational articles, the book has an introduction and several other notes based on the link between words and images. In other words, this book is a link between Mehdi Sahabi's visual world and his translations. Some of the book's articles were presented by critics in two meetings (translation and photography) in 2021 during the exhibition of Mehdi Sahabi’s works in Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts. The success of these meetings was another confirmation on the importance of connecting literary and visual expression by Mehdi Sahabi. The name of the book is an implicit reference to the book In Search of Lost Time, and the common thread of these two books is a continuous search in the depth of language: visual and literary language.
