Still Life Series

While Hosseinali Zabehi is most renowned for his portraits, his classical art training has also equipped him with a mastery of still life. His signature style is evident in his still lifes, characterized by a tendency to distort and deconstruct these subjects. The colors he employs in his still lifes exhibit a wide range from warm to cool tones. Zabehi demonstrates a fearlessness in disrupting the natural colors and tonalities of the real world. Beyond his unique use of color, another defining feature of his still life works is the use of darkness and reduced lighting on objects. Zabehi’s still life world oscillates between figurative and abstract forms: abstraction is achieved through a chaotic interplay of colors and their transitions, yet within this abstraction, the figurative form can still be discerned as a whole. Considering the aforementioned, Zabehi's overall approach is similar to what occurs in Soutine's portraits, followed by a general extension of this perspective to still lifes.
