Horses Series

One of the most significant collections of Hossein Mahjoubi's works is his series of paintings featuring horses. This collection is divided into three sub-themes: Horses and Trees, Movement of Horses, and the World of Mahjoubi, making it well-known among art enthusiasts. The artist’s primary focus in these three series is on the horse and its connection to nature. Through the depiction of various horse movements, Mahjoubi challenges and questions the concept of time,  demonstrating how one can perceive time beyond the linear or linguistic percetion by merely observing a visual image. Mahjoubi's artistic technique involves using simple, unadorned elements of nature such as plants, trees, and horses to create multiple meanings. When we speak of meaning, we refer to a situation, an object, or a form that is creating a path for interpretation: When we speak of meaning, we imply that a situation, an object, or a form is tracing a path to follow. In essence, these creative compositions, with their soft lines and delicate blended colors, guide us along a meaningful journey through time. The reason for this is that as individuals traverse this meaningful path, each person, based on their own cultural, social, and personal codes, arrives at a unique and distinct interpretation of time. Thus, Mahjoubi, rather than depicting a meaning in a realistic manner, aims to chart a meaningful course. It's worth noting that in many Iranian literary tales, and particularly in the region Mahjoubi hails from—Gilan—the horse carries various meanings. Mahjoubi incorporates some of these literary, geographical, and artistic codes from his region into his work. This is why the world of Mahjoubi's horses is a wondrous one, rich with multiple layers of meaning."
