Column Series

Column Series

The concepts of order and freedom blend together in Mehdi Sahabi’s “Column” collection. He uses different pieces of wood to erect the columns, and by combining the pieces he creates a united whole that draws the viewer’s attention to the details. In addition to the uniformity and composition of the wooden pieces, he sometimes adds other objects to the columns like a mask or a bird. These symbols, along with the colors, seams, and cracks in the aged and used pieces of wood, spur the viewers’ imagination and lead them beyond their previous perceptions and preconceptions about composition and color.
