Parvaneh Etemadi

Parvaneh Etemadi

Parvaneh Etemadi was born in Tehran in 1948. She spent her school years in Tehran, and in high school, she was a student of Jalal Al-Ahmad. Her acquaintance with Al-Ahmad led to her later acquaintance with Bahman Mohasses, a prominent Iranian painter. Although Etemadi completed part of her education academically at the School of Decorative Arts, she pursued her path more experimentally and with her personal understanding of art. She held her first solo exhibition at Qandriz Hall, and it was from this period that her so-called "cement" works took shape, works that are a combination of materials and are mostly still lifes, or in some cases, show signs of figures and figurative expression. Parvaneh Etemadi, who held her first solo exhibition at the age of 21, has since participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Iran and abroad, and her works have been displayed in auction houses. In addition to still lifes, cement works, and mixed media pieces, Parvaneh's mastery in the fields of colored pencils, pastels, hand prints, and silkscreen has garnered the attention of many critics and analysts of artworks. Etemadi exhibits great diversity in both her expressive form and the content map of her works, which has made her a prominent figure among modern and contemporary artists. She constantly navigates between these two poles with contemporary approaches, and by mastering the medium of painting, she chooses her technique according to the necessity of the content, techniques that play a key role in producing meaning and creating texture in her works. Etemadi also has a personal expression in the field of collage, and in this area, based on social developments, she can create an internal transformation for the work by collaging.
