Masoud Akhavanjam
Masoud Akhavanjam was born in Tehran in 1969. He completed part of his studies abroad in Germany and the United States, and subsequently took on the role of design manager at a home appliance manufacturing company in Iran. His first exhibition in 2013 at the Etemad Gallery was met with great enthusiasm from art lovers and artists alike. Akhavan has blended his specialized knowledge in biology, home appliance design, and art, and this combination is evident in his artworks. His acquisition of knowledge in Germany and the United States, as well as his understanding of the conditions of modern and postmodern society and the dominance of mechanized life, combined with his knowledge of Iran and the introduction of modernity to Iran, and his technical understanding of materials and form, have led to new creations that blend form and content in Akhavan's sculptures. The softness and flexibility of movement and the placement of volume in space, combined with the hardness of the materials used in Akhavan's works, along with his particular attention to certain mythological forms, are among the most essential components of his work. It should be noted that, in addition to the aforementioned components, the volumes of this contemporary artist, in relation to the concept of space, create a multi-dimensional meaning of the relationship and interaction of the viewer with the work, in such a way that the viewer perceives the overall form of the volume through a multifaceted interaction. In some of his works and collections, we encounter the concept of power and its dominance over modern life, which for Akhavan is summarized only in the ruling power of differentiation, intelligence, perception of texture and position, and knowledge. Perhaps intelligence and knowledge can be compared, through an interpretation of Akhavan's mythological forms, with the wisdom present in Iranian mythology, which is something beyond the structure of intelligence and is more related to the understanding of the situation and context. Given the above, Akhavan's works are a blend of intelligence and wisdom as the most authentic representatives of power.
