Hosseinali Zabehi
Hosseinali Zabehi is a contemporary painter born in 1945 in Tehran. He received his art education at the School of Fine Arts in Tehran under the guidance of Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari and then went to Paris to continue his studies. In 1975, he obtained his Master of Fine Arts from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and upon his return to Iran, he began teaching at the School of Fine Arts for Boys and the Art College. Additionally, since 1988, he has been teaching painting at the Tehran University of Art in, Soore University, the University of Isfahan, and the Azad University.
Zabehi has, throughout his five decades of professional activity, generally inclined towards Expressionist, Abstract, and occasionally Surrealist styles in his works. He frequently uses black in his art and has also conducted research on this color and its characteristics. Zabehi’s selection of artworks, in terms of content and the historical period that influenced the artist, can be divided into seven periods as follows: The Paris Period (1971–1977), The Revolution Period (1980-1983), The War Period (1983-1989), The Abstract Period (1980), The Mysticism Period (1985-1989), The Black Period (1990-2001), and The Portrait Period (2001 to the present).
