Sohrab Sepehri
Contemporary painter and poet Sohrab Sepehri was born in Kashan in 1928. Sepehri studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University, and from the mid-40s, he seriously started painting and poetry, and his poems were published in the magazines of the same decade, especially at the beginning of the fifties, and his first exhibitions were held in the same period, and from the very beginning his special view towards nature, landscape and especially trees draw art lovers and critics attention to itself. Sohrab's first poetry notebooks have a colorful sign of Nima's presence, style and context, which had a deep impact on the language and imagery of the poets of the 1950s, such as Sepehri, Sheibani, and Royaee. Sepehri, along with his contemporary and fellow-citizen, Manouchehr Sheibani, along with landscape painting, had a special view at nature, landscape and the city, the main axes of which are: a new concept of the cities of the modern era, where life is completely mechanized, but the painter's view is to search for a fluid and intimate space, the landscape is not only seen but also shows the connection and presence of the painter in it, nature is the place of presence and perception for these poet-painters. In the same period, Sepehri sometimes has darker color finishes in his paintings, which, apart from his paintings, also show themselves in his notebooks and poems, especially the notebooks and poems before Avar Aftab. Sepehri's power in his poems has reached its peak with Debris of the Sun ( Avar e Aftab) collection, and the images are successively more metaphorical, complex and multi-dimensional in each book. During this period, Sohrab enters the first designs of his tree trunks, which are his most original and famous works for art lovers. In this period and from tree trunks onwards, Sohrab's special use of light is remarkable. He depicted the light from the surface of the objects and the light shows itself well through the trunks: sometimes the light has pressure and sometimes it has a range. During this period (sixties and seventies), Sepehri's poetry matured step by step and his paintings became more concise and metaphorical. This prominent poet and painter passed away in Tehran in 1980, and the influence of his life and professional activities has a tremendous impact on the poets and painters of the next generations.
